German Buildings

A collaborative audiovisual work by Sydney Mills and Roz Yuen

In the age of digital retouching and filters, we often seek an idealized version of ourselves, striving for unattainable physical perfection. Insatiable Human invites viewers to reflect on the consequences of this obsession, questioning the blurred lines between enhancement and authenticity, while highlighting the complex interplay between humanity's insatiable appetite for perfection and our voracious consumption-driven society. Mills and Yuen ask, at what cost does our ceaseless pursuit of material wealth and instant gratification come a cost to our environment, society, and personal well-being? Will humanity ever find a balance between the authentic and the augmented, the tangible and the digital, the sustainable and the insatiable?

This film was made by Sydney Mills. Roz Yuen composed and performed the music. Insatiable Human was partially funded with a grant from EXP_Berlin. The project also won one of EXP_’s Intercity Collaborative Prizes in 2021. In 2023, Insatiable Human was screened at the Chroma Art Film Festival in Miami, Florida.

For this project, Mills also served as cinematographer, colorist, art director, prop maker and special effects.
