backpool is a collaborative music project by industrial-pop powerhouse KANGA and Ukrainian producer/musician Alex Yarmak. With Yarmak in Kiev, Ukraine and KANGA in Los Angeles, their musical partnership defies the limitations of distance, borders and geopolitical turmoil.
“so low” is Mills’ second video for backpool. Mills has been working with the band since December 2023 on developing the band’s visual style, including their videos, album covers and social media content.
This music video is a zero-budget visual piece, built from archival iPhone footage captured in strange, liminal corners of large-scale commercial productions, interwoven with newly shot material on 4K digital cameras and a 00’s Sony MiniDV. The film repurposes fragments from Sydney Mills’ personal archive, transforming behind-the-scenes spaces into something disorienting and atmospheric. Luis Silva and Sydney Mills collaborated across all stages of the process, including shooting, editing, color grading, and visual effects.
